Three Swedish löpmedaljer for Sweden would be unique “- Swedish Dagbladet

The Golden Generation had its peak when Sweden arranged EM 2006th festival in Gothenburg eight years ago gave three gold, six medals in total and six more placements among the top six. Carolina Klüft, Susanna Kallur and Christian Olsson was the favorite and the pressure behind them took Johan Wissman silver, Stefan Holm and Kajsa Bergqvist bronze.

When was the record number of 69 active with. All were given a chance at home when the Swedish athletics was at its peak and the stellar rampage was a guarantee for both medals and big sponsorship revenues to the union.

The economy is far from as strong today and poster names have not at all the same luminosity. Still experiencing Swedish athletics its most exciting time since the glory years of the early 2000s.

The national coach Karin Tower Klint has been very generous with EM tickets. All who passed the qualification has got to go. 60 active on-site can be questioned, but I rejoice rather than diversity and versatility in the squad than get upset over potential “tourist activities”.

The thing that tickles and makes it all so exciting is mix. At all levels. Who had a few years ago could have predicted that the three biggest medal hopes would be female middle and long distance runner?

There was not on the map.

Or to juniors as a 17-year-old Irene Ekelund (200 meters) and 19-year-old Andreas Almgren (800m) would arrive at the way they have done with medals in the World Junior Championships earlier this summer and be ready for the international championship debut in the senior contexts.

Javelin Kaster Skan Sofi Flink , 19, is another junior who already last year went to the World Cup final and finished tenth. Now she is aiming higher / longer.

Ekelund and Almgren is not mature enough to fight for the medals yet, but get here an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience.

During the summer has also a former super talent Angelica Bengtsson (pole vault) finally found the confidence and technique again after all the problems. The question is whether it is enough for the final. Then she got up one more level.

And how many had heard of discus thrower Daniel Ståhl upcoming season? Now, he is third in Europe and throws for a medal.

Meanwhile, a veteran of the golden generation, Johan Wissman, fought back after all the injuries and may even reach a grand final . All credit to him.

In addition to these, there are established hope in Michel Tornéus, Erica Jarder and Emma Green. Emma has had back problems but usually always take it to the final, Jarder has the ability to jump far when it really counts and Tornéus has certainly not impressed after a late start to the season, but I still think he gets a medal.

The form is on the road up, the capacity available and championship routine becomes crucial. Earlier this year there was the Bronze Medal for indoor long jump Bajens who two years ago took the European Championship bronze last year and European Championships silver indoors.

I believe in three more medals. Optimistic on the high side? Perhaps. However, statistics indicate that Abeba Aregawi, Charlotta Fougberg and Meraf Bahta all stand on the podium during the week.

the Dutch Sifan Hassan is the greatest threat to both Aregawi and Bahta. Europe One thinks doubling and run both the 1,500 and 5,000 meters. Maybe she gapes wide for much

Fougberg is the Swedish sensation. Competition in the 3000 meter steeplechase is admittedly weak in Europe, but that does not detract from her enormous improvement during the season.

Three Swedish löparmedaljer on the women’s side were unique. But quite reasonable. And a lot of fun.
