But in this weekend’s final against France in Lille has alplandet a dream chance with world number two Federer and world number four Stanislas Wawrinka in the team.

Two things are arguments against a historical first DC victory for Switzerland. The verbal altercation between Federer and Wawrinka after their frequent semifinals of the ATP finals on Saturday. And above all – Federer’s troublesome back that forced him to abandon the ATP finals.

The fight they have toned down and instead joked together at press conferences. But the back is harder to joke away.

First on Thursday took Federer’s decision that he’ll play.

– There has been good out there this morning. I was very happy with how it felt, said Federer who plays Friday’s second single, against Gaël Monfils, while Wawrinka set against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the first.

– He (Federer) has got three

days’ rest and before that he played his best tennis, so it looks good for him, said Monfils, who is 0-5 in matches against Federer.

To a spine injured Federer charged is not surprising. The team’s third place is ranked 212: th in the world and fourth grade 508: a.

Obviously Federer unsure if he is in 100 percent shape.

– Only the game tomorrow can bring it answer. I am happy that I can play tomorrow, I can give it a shot, said Federer.

French coach Arnaud Clement has always counted on Federer:
