Awaited European Championship for Tornéus – Helsingborgs Dagblad

In the fourteenth major championship came at last her good fortune that carried all the way up to the top of the podium for Michel Tornéus. Winning jump of 8.30 in the second attempt was a knock as the other finalists never managed to answer.

One touched Tornéus put yourself into words the feelings after the gold in the O2 Arena:

– First it felt it’s okay, when we walked around there. But when I sat down and looked up and so was my daughter and girlfriend up there – then I began to cry, then I was happy. Then take that shit, I’ve been chasing this gold in an incredible number of championships. And finally get to it.

Not only was the victory of hope an air journey that paid off in gold. It was also the longest of his career jumps, a trimming Tornéus two year old Swedish indoor record by a centimeter.

– But the championship is only about investments. It’s just a bonus that it became 8.30 and Swedish record. It was the gold I was looking for when I came here, and it’s nice to get it home now.

Ever since his breakthrough summer of 2012 – when it became bronze in the European Championships and fourth place in the Olympics – has 28 -year-old from Botkyrka shown that he is a real championship jumpers.

In the Championship, he now for the first time wearing favorite among owners – and Tornéus showed he could handle the situation well.

– The is just nice to know that you can perform when needed, he said.

– For me it has been a träningssak. I was very uncomfortable in the beginning. When you (journalists) came and spoke Swedish record and medals so I thought it was pretty tough. Now do I care honestly do not know much about what you say, ha ha.

Now glances Michel Tornéus already the summer the World Athletics Championships in Beijing, but it is also Olympics in Rio de Janeiro next year as it is big goal.

That’s when, as a newly 30-year-old, who he wants to be the best.

That’s when he wants revanschera for the mocking medal miss the London Olympics.

And with a gold brought back from Prague becomes an investment even easier.

– It is clear that it is nice to have a gold. Now I can be with the Masters champion … Oh, I’m kidding. But it had been a pain to always hear that it is “centimeter man” or whatever you get for nicknames. Now I have a gold at home, and it’s all the same thing.

Just as happy as Tornéus was for the gold, as happy was Andrew Otterling for his bronze. The 28-year-old from Örebro did just that Tornéus career longest jump – and 8.06 in the last attempt was enough for a blue-yellow medal bang.

– It feels like I have not really melt it. It feels very surreal in any way. I almost could not believe when we were out on the ärevarvet. I had to check several times – I was really treaters?

The silver trick Czech home hope, Radek Juska at 8.10.
