Malmo FF’s plans to go to Dubai on a training camp in January has met with strong reactions from supporters elsewhere. MFF support writes, among other things, that it “is not compatible with Malmö FF’s core values.”
Now, a namninsalmling started under the heading “MFF of slavery”.
– The challenge for Malmo FF becomes who then is to make the assessment of which countries are okay, says MFF’s CEO Niclas Carlnén.
It was in Sydsvenskan MFF podcasts as Malmo FF’s sporting director Daniel Andersson told us that the team most likely replace Florida to Dubai when it’s time for training camp in January.
This announcement has stirred up feelings of the fans and MFF support writes on his Facebook page:
“MFF Support wish to clearly emphasize that we believe that a training camp in Dubai is inappropriate and not in line with Malmö FF’s values.
Dubai a slave state that methodical use public relations through sports and events as a way to promote itself to foreign tourists.
This for us is not a matter of policy, but fundamental human rights. We do not believe that the MFF should sponsor a state that executes homosexuals, slaves and dissidents. “
” Dubai is best sporting prospects “
Malmo FF’s CEO explains that is following the recommendations of mainly Swedish Football Association but also from the Foreign Ministry, UN, FIFA and UEFA when choosing the location.
– It is we comply. It works the same way as when we check that we can go to Ukraine to play our Champions League match, says Niclas Carlnén.
Also the climate is essential. The camp takes place in late January and MFF want a weather so much like Swedish summer as possible.
– Now we also wanted to shorten the travel time and time difference. Based on that, we have come to the conclusion that Dubai offers the best sporting opportunities if we do not want to go to the USA or Asia, plus we get good European opposition.
Can you understand those members who believe that the MFF should not go to a country that they believe infringes on the human rights?
– The challenge becomes who then is to make the assessment of which countries are okay. The question is whether Malmö FF can make that assessment, we consider that this competence is not in the club and we have therefore chosen to lean on the agencies that I mentioned earlier.
Supporters have started a petition
Now MFF supporter Per Soler started a petition under the heading “MFF of slavery”. Soler writes among other things:
“The men work themselves to death, and women toil as maids and sexual harassment. Dubai and other Gulf States works through people live and work like slaves to their owners (” kafala “- System ‘).’
He also writes that the MFF has 6 000 members with voting rights and 10 percent sign, members require an extra annual meeting.
– Absolutely . So it is. Is it ten percent which requires an annual meeting so of course there will be an annual meeting, said Carlnén.
Can they then stop the training camp?
– I can not answer, I can never be a discussion at the annual meeting so I do not want to comment on. It gets annual meeting in such cases will tell.
