– Awesome. Unbelievable. Absolutely fantastic. Incredible to win at home.
Your greatest achievement?
– One of them. Absolutely. I beat the world number one Ma Lin once, but this was astonishing.
Olympic and double world champion
Along with three other Swedes went Lundquist into the fourth round of the Soc – where he got the toughest possible resistance in the form of Zhang Jike, who not only took Olympic gold in London 2012 but also the double world champion.
– Possible should not be. But I knew that he was going to upset. He is a slow starter, and I got the game right where I wanted, says Lundquist.
– It is always so damn easy for them downwind, but now I knew that he had to fight for Olympics slot and it was nice to see him a little stressed.
In the quarterfinals, he meets Krisitan Karlsson, who went ahead from their eighth after the victory against Eugene Wang – meaning that a Swedish player is already ready for the semifinals on Sunday.
– Do not know when it happened later. So funny, says Kristian Karlsson.
