Alpine sport becomes a star less this season.
American Julia Mancuso choose hip operation – and will be away for at least five months.
Fourfold Olympic medalist Julia Mancuso miss the entire forthcoming alpine season. The American has decided to undergo hip surgery today, Wednesday.
“Clenching”
The decision comes after prolonged pain and an unwillingness to suffer through it one more season. Instead, she chooses to break up and get back to the Olympics in 2018 in South Korea.
– If I would try to bite the bullet, undergo more treatments and try to go skiing this season, I would just destroy what is my real goal, the Olympics in 2018. My goal now is to be strong enough to stand on skis again in late March, she said in a statement, according to NBC.
Fell in Åre
Mancuso forced to shorten the season 2014/15 because of pain in the right hip she suffered after a fall in World Cup races in the Swedish Åre.
Along with the US national team, she has been testing during the preseason, but without further success.
– Unfortunately, our efforts have not been successful and we have decided to invest in the operation, says federation doctor Kyle Wilkens according to NBC.
