Arsenal and Chelsea showed class – Sydsvenskan

While Chelsea showed what the team is made of when it really counts. 2-0 at home against Porto, who miss games in the eighth finals since Dynamo Kiev beat Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Arsenal traveled to Piraeus with the obligation to win by at least two goals to get ahead despite three defeats. And with an injury hit squad. Despite the fact that Theo Walcott barely played in a long time was the England international in the starting line-up.

– We need to score goals, motivated manager Arsene Wenger for Viasat.

It did Arsenal, after a half-hour.

But there was not Walcott involved. Mesut Ozil, in its strongest form since he came to Arsenal, came around the left and on the low post threw himself Olivier Giroud up and headed the goal that opened the door to the fourth round ajar.

The problem was that it required another one.

Three minutes into the second came – after a superb performance by Joel Campbell. Costaricanen took down the ball on the thigh, shoved aside and served Giroud who struck the ball with the left.

Olympiakos was whipped to reduce to reclaim second place behind Bayern Munich and tried and tried, but instead Giroud completed his hat-trick, a penalty after a hand.

Self aim of Portos Marcano after 12 minutes at Stamford Bridge took Chelsea to the top of the group. Six minutes into the second secured advancement. Willian dot fired into 2-0 and in the official gallery arose owner Roman Abramovich and cheered. Down on the line could manager Jose Mourinho exhale. The hard-pressed Portuguese gets the job there.

Bayer Leverkusen was a goal at home against already clear group winner Barcelona from the sniffles Roma at further play in the tournament next year. Chicharito equalized Leo Messi 0-1 but since Romas meeting with BATE Borisov ended goalless, the Germans had had a segermål to pass Roma.
