The bomb exploded last week, when Frölunda’s very best defensemen for the season suddenly decided to leave the club.
Everything had of course been fine if he had gone to Ottawa Senators – who has 21-year-old under contract and loaned him to Frölunda.

– I think Frölunda is a great club that has made much for me. But also know that it has not worked out socially hundred percent for me in Dubai – and I’m a security man. Then Karlstad a better option for me.

What was the reaction in Frölunda?
– It’s my agent who handled most of the contact. But I’ve talked to all the players face to face. Some took it well, others took less good.
Wikstrand is fond of home, there is no doubt whatsoever.
He was in his teens difficult to move the five mile from the small Furudal (800 people in the center) to the hockey school in Mora – and worse was when he was going to “big city” Gothenburg. Then he stopped and with a half-season extra in Mora.
Wikstrand has also fluctuated a lot to Dalarna, home to mom Britt-Marie and four older siblings.
– Throughout the summer I have gone home every weekend. Up on Friday after practice, lived at home with mom, spent time with my friends – and then gone back late on Sunday night, says Wikstrand.
unhappy you in Gothenburg?
– Nah, it’s a nice town. But Gothenburg is big for me coming from a small village. I want security.
And Ottawa course know about your plans?
– Yes, absolutely. We have had a discussion between myself, Ottawa and agents. They have purchased it. To change the law in Sweden took no as something negative. It’s my decision.
It has been speculated that you have given up NHL career?
– Of course it is not so! Should I play in Sweden, I want to play close to home – and we have said that I should go over to Canada and try to take a seat. Can not I I will come home and play with Farjestad.
This is where the focus is. Wikstrand then go to Ottawa later this year. First, there will be development camp, development camp. Thereafter, the slope of the two camps trying to break into a back room next to a certain Erik Karlsson.
How would it work to move to the megacity of Ottawa?
– That’s not the problem! If I know I’m going to play in Sweden, I want to go home when I’m off, stay close to family and friends. If I go to Ottawa, I will set me in a completely different way. There are two different things.
Many of the social media wants it to Wikstrand is a pengakåt deserters, who goes to worst rival Farjestad.
– Those who say it would be able to see my contract, so they take that it is not so. I want closer to home. If I had gone for the money, it would have probably been teams that have paid considerably more than Farjestad do, say Wikstrand.
He will basically have exactly the same contract in Farjestad as in Frölunda, it differs a few hundred dollars up. Karlstad club shall also pay the sum for education grants Frölunda would have gotten the NHL at any game.
You sound very set to play in Farjestad. Will you ever play in Ottawa?
– I have written a year with Farjestad. Then I have the exact same deal as John Klingberg had. I go over the camps and trying to take a seat. I can do it, I come to 99.9 per cent playing in Ottawa.
