Swedish gold and bronze in World Cup sprint – Helsingborgs Dagblad

off road was Sunday’s runway 4.1 km long. Leandersson had to run, but looked at times like to fly out between the 23 controls and finished in 13:12.

– Sprint is very fast-paced and intense, and today was one of those cool days when everything just floating on said Leandersson, whose only miss was some questionable choices.

– It’s all about to take very quick decisions, you have no time to stand and analyze the pros and cons.

Martin Hubmann was the one who came closest. But the Swiss had to settle for the silver, 1.9 seconds behind Leandersson.

Yannick Michiels was stumbling close – literally – to challenge Leandersson. But Belgian stumbled on a fence in the final stages of the race and finished fifth.

Eventually remained just a threat to Leandersson. And it came from teammate Saturday’s sprintstafett, jerker lysell. Like Leandersson went Lysell also out hard and grew. But a small detour to one of the last checks made Lysell had to settle for bronze, 4.5 seconds behind his compatriot.

The medal was Lysell first in the World Cup context.

Leandersson have taken World Championship medals before, including gold in the relay at last year’s World Cup. But the individual had before Sunday’s gold feat at best become bronze in the sprint two years ago.

In Saturday’s mixed sprintstafett was Leandersson near the bridge since he and Lysell impressed on their respective distances, but it was in fifth place. Something that made Leandersson revenge-seeking in Sunday’s race.

When the men’s relay is determined on Wednesday it might be a medal again.

– I hope to be with if I am refreshed and healthy. But tonight (Sunday) I will just enjoy, said Sweden’s freshest orientation of world champion.
