Finland won the JVM gold – SvenskaFans.com

We were treated to a high entertainment when the host nation Finland made up of Russia in the JVM-finals. The Russians took an early lead, but slowly but surely got Finland back and equalized right away in the third period – only to see Russia regain the lead immediately.

But the Finns came once more back and with two minutes left ruled captain Mikko Rantanen in 3-2 goal. But shame on those who give – six seconds left put the Russian acknowledgment.

Early in the extension then stepped kasperi kapanen up with a snappy wrap-around and the host nation Finland took the team’s second gold in the last three championships.

Russian superiority

As for the semifinal chose the Russian coach Valeri Bragin to change the goalkeeper. Ilya Samsonov, who did so well against the United States, had kindly step aside for Alexander Georgiev – which of course had the confidence in the group stage and quarter-finals.

Georgiev was tested a few times in the beginning, but otherwise it was Russia took hold of the match the picture, thanks to an early power play – and a subsequent goal. Ivan Provorov extended a pass to Vladislav Kamenev, who in turn drew directly. The puck found its way in at the near post and probably should Finland goalkeeper Kaapo Kähkönen able to do it better.

The Russians continued to control the match – and even when Finland got the chance in powerplay, it was Russia that was dangerous. Andrei Svetlakov tore himself away in a turn of play, but his finish went into the bar.

In the final stage was Finland bit closer, when the so acclaimed first chain managed to spin around in the offensive zone in a longer sequence.

Finland came back, but …

In the second period began Finland is slowly taking over the game. Twice had the chance in the powerplay – but again, it was the Russians who arrived in the dangerous situation. This time came Radel Fazleyev almost managed unleashed in a neutral position, but lost the puck as he was about to shoot.

Vili SAARIJÄRVI hitting the post, kasperi kapanen had some giant modes and Roope Hintz was very close to equalizing the match, but despite a good Finnish sequencing for a long time we stood dumbfounded when the period of the break came.

The press as Finland generated during my act had to contrast immediate dividends in the third period – and it was then that the first chain finally presented itself after five scoreless periods. Sebastian Aho took the puck in the offensive zone, dropped it to Patrick Laine, who in turn flicked it behind a matchless Georgiev.

But the joy was short-lived. Russia came namely to respond promptly. Andrei Svetlakov conquered the puck just outside the offensive blue line, stepped toward the goal and sent the puck into the net.

New Finnish comeback, but …

Little surprising died on the newly kindled Finnish energy directly, but it is slowly built up again – and so small it behind Georgiev. Jesse Puljujärvi conquered the puck behind the goal line and served Sebastian Aho with a distinctive pass in front of the goal. Georgiev could not sideways movement without Aho direct shot resulted in 2-2.

With seven minutes left in the third period Finland got a new chance in powerplay, but Russia survived the test. Close by the expulsion had to then again search out the sin bin. In the quest ahead goal Finland took their time out – and with a minute left of the expulsion flicked Vili SAARIJÄRVI off the puck on goal. It said Mikko Rantanen, captain, and steered the 3-2 goal.

Russia picked out his keeper and went hard for it to end – six seconds left got the equalizer in the highly dramatic finale. Ivan Provorov threw the puck on goal and was guided into the goal by Andrei Svetlakov.

Kapanen Hero

In the long stepped so kasperi kapanen forward. Kapanen has slowly but surely become better the longer the JVM has continued – and in the final he was very good. A small spin around one face-off circle was followed by a quick wrap-around around a matchless Georgiev.

Finland thus took his second gold medal at the last three championships and the host nation got a nice revenge after the quarter-final loss a year ago . The finale offered high entertainment and Finland is seen as worthy champions.
