The rally will be off – but the distances are deleted – Sveriges Radio

Mild weather is close to stopping this year’s Rally Sweden. In order to save what can be saved today announced a management action plan.

– It’s been tough days to review and inspect all the roads, said Swedish Rally CEO Glenn Olsson when he opened the press conference. However, he announced the most important – the rally goes ahead, albeit in reduced form.

Some of the measures presented at today’s press conference:

  • There will be no super special stage at Färjestad trotting track on Thursday evening. This means that the rally will begin first on Friday. Instead of a rally stretch however, it becomes an inaugural show.
  • There will be no shakedown stretch on Thursday.
  • The historic class is deleted completely.
  • primarily amounts running 12 of the planned 21 special stages. Among other things, emphasized the SS Kirkenaer and Hagfors Sprint.
  • Several stretches that would have been run twice are only single distances – SS Rämmen, SS Frederiksberg, SS Lesjöfors and SS Värmullsåsen.
  • Total is now running 240 kilometers of the original 321 kg meters special stage. This means that regular World Cup points will be awarded.
  • The reconnaissance moved to Wednesday and Thursday when the colder weather is expected to come in, in order to minimize road damage, and the distances are in the best shape rekognoseras Wednesday .

– But we have a contest, says Glenn Olsson

Despite this, it is the weather that finally decides if there will be a rally or not. If the latest forecast goes wrong and the promised minus degrees will not – then the whole rally set.

– We want to take a chance on a rally. Everything is based on a forecast that tells chill on Thursday. If we do not we are in a difficult situation, says Glenn Olsson.

What does this mean financially for the rally?

– we do not know yet. There we see only after the rally. The adjustments will affect our economy in some form, but this is the only option. To set up a competition would involve extremely heavy financial burden for us, says Glenn Olsson to P4 Värmland.
