The CHL is a Swedish success.
Three Swedish team is through to the semifinals of the tournament after one including Frölunda won a giant drama of Helsinki.
– I am totally exhausted, says Roger Rönnberg to Eurosport.
Luleå became the first Swedish team to claim a ticket to the CHL’s semifinal game. Norrbotten had 5-2 to move on from the first meeting with Lukko Rauma and it never got excited in quarter final return.
After an uneventful first period went Lulea from 0-0 to 2-0 in just 18 seconds second period goals from Marcus Fagerudd and Chris Abbott. The match finished 2-1 and won a total of Lulea double encounter with 7-3.
– It will be great fun to play semi-finals, says coach Joakim Fagervall.
But it was a clear victory in Luleå, it was a whole different ball game in Gothenburg, where Frölunda met Helsinki.
Rysarseger for Frölunda
Frölunda, who had the 1-2 underdog with him into the second game, went up to 2-0 early in the second period and management overall.
But Helsinki refused to surrender. They both reduced and equalized before Frölunda again took a two goal lead. Once again came Helsinki in equal position overall with his 4-3 reduction.
Everything was decided at the last minute. First saw Frölunda out getting a penalty against itself for a high stick by Elias Fälth, but so was the Helsinki too many players on the ice and in game four against four could Robin Figren decide.
Critical Finnish coach
– I found some type of give-and-go and it found the back. It was really nice, says Figren.
Helsinki coach Antti Törmänen was critical of the final expulsion.
– Everyone knows that the decision had not been taken if it had been the other way around, line judges were from here. It is a brutal decision, he says in Eurosport.
Kárpát clear
What will be the third Swedish team determined later in the evening in the meeting between Skelleftea and Linköping. The winner of that match will face Luleå, while Frölunda must meet Kárpát in the semifinals.
Kárpát went on to defeat Saipa in both their matches. Total stopped double encounter 5-2.
