Junior crowns left the world championships without a medal and a departing coach.
Now it is clear that it is Linköping assistant coach Tomas Montén that takes over.
– really a dream job, that’s the way it feels now, says 38-year-old.
Richard Grönborg led the Junior crowns in five years, but left the mission as coach after fourth place in JVM in Finland – his and the team’s second straight medal Miss.
Sportbladets data pointed immediately following the championship against Linköping assistant coach Tomas Montén, 38,.
Today it became official that he takes over.
– There will be a fierce and exciting challenge. Truly a dream job, that’s the way it feels now. But it was a difficult process to choose if I would continue in Linköping or jump on it, he said.
“Something I’ve never done”
What decided?
– Somewhere it is that this is something I’ve never done before. Sure, I’ve been on the World Cup, but never as principal. Being a coach is something great and a cool thing. JVM is such a fantastic tournament, and interest has exploded here in Sweden the last four-five years.
Montén was assistant coach of Richard Grönborg during the two JVM tournaments before this year and have a ten long managerial career elite behind. Has coached SHL players in both Djurgarden, Timra and now Linköping.
An experience he brings with him to the beloved and much-publicized Junior crowns.
“Priority one, take out the optimal team”
They have two straight quarters places now. Early to say now, perhaps, but what do you hope to accomplish with the team?
– I was in Toronto when we were four, and in Malmö when we finished second and know that it’s about as incredibly small margins. One priority for me is to find the optimum team and do a proper mapping to the championship.
But some dreams have not you?
– Haha , yes, everyone who goes to the JVM’s there to win. To play for the medals away in Montreal would have been awesome and it’ll probably be something you dream about a few times when it settles on the pillow during this journey. Then you may ask me again in November. Then I have put me more into everything.
Montén will be leaving Linkoping for the current season and changing jobs in May. The club has for some time known that the trainer should leave and have already started looking for a replacement for next season.
