Bjorn Akesson, 27, was tied for third in the European Tour in Johannesburg – the golfer’s greatest success in his career.
Still, it was enough with a little sweet and sour sensation that the people of Skåne went off the 18th green. Åkessons bogey on the relatively easy last par 5 hole cost him second place, which had given a place in this summer’s British Open at Royal Troon.
The South African Haydn Porteous won (18 under par) and the runner Zander Lombard (16 below) made sure it was a domestic double. Åkesson (15 in) shared third place with three other players.
Johan Carlsson was shared seventh.
