It is a challenge that most remember. Canadian Rob Niedermayer sank Peter Forsberg in the World Cup final in 2003. Thirteen years later regret “Foppa” that he had not retaliated.
– I regret some day that I do not, he can say, he says in Masters champion.
Three Crowns made it to the World Cup final in 2003 after an incredible turnaround in the quarter-final against Finland, when they were in with 1-5 but turned to 6-5. The semifinal against Slovakia became a rather pleasant trip before Canada was waiting in the finals. The game is for many Swedish eyes most remembered for Rob Niedermayers ugly tackle on Peter Forsberg. A tackle that left deep traces in the Swedish star.
– I do not see him. I usually see people quite good, but I have no idea that I get a tackle in the back. It was lucky I did not end up a bit further down, then I hit his face against the edge of the rim. It is among the ugliest bangs I ever gone on, he says the Masters champion.
Several times later in his career pondering “Foppa” to take revenge on Niedermayer but chose not to do so. A decision he regrets to this day.
– I thought a few times when I played in Philadelphia on the soles him down. I regret a little bit today, I do not, he can say, says Peter Forsberg in the program.
