Klara Svensson has been training for months and is a better boxer than ever before.
But the upcoming title match, if the WBC belt, she not win with the gloves – but with the skull.
– Boxing’s actually like a chess game at it’s best, she says.
Ten rounds on Saturday night. That is all that now stands between Klara Svensson and what has been the dream since pro debut for almost four years ago: to defeat a world champion.
– It feels strange that it begins to approach so that it does now . But I have never felt so good shape right now. My boxing technique, my development, body, muscles, everything feels very in phase, she says.
So far, 27-year-old from Hollviken unbeaten as a pro, 15 wins in 15 matches. She has become known as a smart boxer, a bit tricky. Fast movements to avoid the kind of small traps that a lowered shoulder that attract opponents to attack when and where Svensson wants.
– This timing, to see the gaps and see what she can do before she do it … I’ve had it from the beginning. Like when I play football, I just know where to hit a pass. That’s the same kind of game perception.
Before the brawl makes Klara Svensson several trips “home” to Sweden to do public relations for the match, as she puts as one of the largest in damboxningen ever in Sweden. In recent years she has lived in Copenhagen, where she is contracted by the promotional stables Team Sauerland. This is where she lives and trains, that was where she last fall won the WBC’s interim title in the light welterweight and that is where she is now May 2 will use their cunning to defeat Erica Annabella Farias.
It will be the biggest and toughest challenge yet to the “Swedish Princess,” as she is known in Denmark. A chance to become queen.
– She, Farias, it’s not world champion for nothing, I can see that she has this gaze and feel, says Smith.
Argentinskan Farias was lightweight world champion from August 2011 to April 2014, when she went on her so far the only loss of his 22 games as a pro. Then she went up a weight class and won his current title in the light welterweight in November last year. Clara Smith describes his next opponent as a “dude”, a bit like herself. A boxer who is used to control the game where she wants.
– The most important thing to her is to break her down psychologically in the game and not back down. She is not exceptional in his boxing technique, but I would meet her she will come again. I have to work on my “game face”, it’s round one.
Will the weigh-in and everything going that extra important for this kind of game?
– Absolutely. When standing on weighing and stands face to face with someone,
There are five months ago, Smith later was up in the ring. Then she defeated Italian language Lucia Morelli on points, and it was the victory that gave her the chance to challenge for the world title.
New training methods with pilates and meditation have been overcome muscles that former light became stiff. Quantity is replaced with the quality of the training and as a result is Klara Svensson match weight (63.5 kg) already weeks before it’s time, and need not bother appreciably over what is served at the lunch restaurant, she hastens to after the interview.
– It is a nice feeling. I feel that I had wanted to go and run 100 kilometers, says she and drums with his legs.
– You should not peaka too quickly, but I really feel that I’m on time. Since I dare not think how it will feel, I want to win first. I think that is what many people are doing wrong, like when you look at Alexander Gustafsson and all of the hype. Everyone called him “Champ” before he was. I have from my old coach, first you must do something, then you can talk. And there is some truth in it.
