Strengthened by Jennie Johansson’s sensational gold in the 50 meters breaststroke an hour earlier was the Swedish team in the medal hunt in the final of the 4×100 meters medley.
Sweden began with Michelle Coleman backstroke in the first leg. Coleman dropped in the other nations and exchanged seventh to Jennie Johansson.
Johansson – who just an hour earlier stood on the podium with a gold medal around his neck – made a new super race and put Sweden to third place after leading China.
Sarah Sjostrom did not want to be outdone she made a grim end to the butterfly route and switched to Louise Hansson second.
Hansson held off chasing Australia and swam in second, 83 hundredths behind China. The Swedish silver time was 3.55,24 – a new European record.
