Beijing. She talks about the gold, but hope for a medal.

For the reigning world champion Abeba Aregawi it would last a great success.

Before she came to Beijing had she not competed in over two months. Last race she ran at Bislett in Oslo where she was four.

An injury to the spine that has gone down in the first leg has made Abeba Aregawi not been able to run properly in over a year.

With the help of the “monster masseur”, German Volker Wagner, she is now on the way back. But she has not convinced his speed in his two races here in Beijing.

– I just wanted to go for the final. It was about to enter the top five, said Abeba Aregawi since she finished third in the semifinal round after Sifan Hassan and Dawit Seyaum.

She said that she had more to give if it was required. And it does not matter whether it is fast or slow in the final.

– It does not matter. If they go, I go.

The damage has irritated Abeba Aregawi since the World Championship gold in Moscow in 2013. She was totally superior and not lost a race in a year.

However, since then there have been no more victory. Instead, it has focused on rehabilitation, first in Stockholm in the autumn, where she studied Swedish.

And then in Ethiopia.

For Genzebe Dibaba trends been the opposite. In Moscow, she finished in eighth place. This year, she has broken the world record and is storfavortit.

Are you going to take her back on Dibaba in the final?

– I do not know, we’ll see. I can not decide it now, I’ll watch the race, she said after the semifinal.

But the whole time here in Beijing, she has been clear about one thing:

– First, let I go to the final, then I will fight for a medal.

Gold?

– Yes.
