Ad:
– It was great to take it at first. I thought I would tear down, I touched the bar a little bit, but it’s great, says a beaming Michela Meijer after qualifying.
She has come back from injury and has had a brilliant season so far. She won silver at the European Youth Championships in Tallin last summer – after Angelica Bengtsson – and she was with at the European Indoor Championships in Prague in March.
– You saw during the race there were many who began to tear as you had hopes that it would be sufficient 4:55, but I was always set to jump 4.60. It is better to think that one needs more hope and then not have to do it, she says.
How do you prepare for the final?
– Trying reload and eat and drink a lot. It’s very hot out there.
Angelica Bengtsson has had an injury in his right hand and barely able to hold a stake in a couple of weeks. Now she took four painkillers and flew over 4:55 in the first jump.
– It feels really good, she says. In the beginning I had a little pain in the wrist, so I just drove three appearances, but there were three very good understudy. 4.30-jump was really bad, I canceled the jump but come over anyway so it was nice that you can come across high altitudes without it being perfect.
Neither the hope of 4:55 was perfect under the 22-year-old.
– I did not touch the bar and it was probably pretty high over, but it was a pretty bad jumps. It was a little aside, no I can do better, she says self-critically.
They are the same age and sharing during the World Cup and both think it’s nice that they are two of the finals .
– It is always pleasant to have a Swedish on the inner plane, says Michaela Meijer.
– It’s nice to have someone to talk to, says Angelica Bengtsson.
Both think they can jump higher than 4:55 in the final.
– I have a new rod that I picked up to 4.60-jump. Would have been nice to test it, but I feel safe so I think we can handle it, says Michaela Meijer.
Angelica Bengtsson hope on a new Swedish record. Her own newly planted outdoor record is 4.61, but inside, she jumped 4.70.
– I’m just betting that jump as high as possible and it feels like I’m right so high elevations in the body.
– The goal will be well to beat my indoor record, says Angelica Bengtsson.
