World Cup four and Swedish record. 22-year-old Angelica Bengtsson fly to new heights in the pole vault.

Now, she has established himself in the world elite and Olympic plan is already clear:

“We have rods that work already, so it looks good,” she says and laughs.

Angelica Bengtsson stepped into the giant Bird’s Nest with a smile on his face . Admittedly, she had taken three pain pills just in case, but they were not needed that day.

– There were a few times as it stood on the approach and was nervous and the butterflies came, but no , it was really nice to be out there and feel that one had the situation under control, she said after the final.

Input height 4.35 she flew over with lots of air. Likewise, 4.50 and even 4.60. And then it was time for 4.70, equal to the new Swedish record.

– It was close to I rev 4.70 in the first, so it was a bit of luck there, she says, laughing.

– I took all altitudes in the first attempt and then I had three good attempts at 4.80. So I am happy.

For a long time, it also looks as if 4.70 would be sufficient for a shared bronze medal, but when three jumpers passed 4.80, she ended up off the podium.

– It was a little disappointing when you walked down the medal list and then ended up just outside, she says and adds, amused:

– But only three in the world this year jumped better than me when it comes.

– It feels really good.

She has never jumped by as rigid rods, which she used in the final and she has never dropped out of 4 , 80 at the competition.

– I felt 4.80 was not far off, either.

In March, she won European Championship bronze medal in Prague and put a new Swedish record indoors, 4.70. When she won the Swedish Championship gold in Soderhamn she raised the Swedish record outdoors to 4.61.

During the year, she was confident of the heights around 4.50-4.60. With that, she firmly established in the world elite.

– last year leapt I 4.50 and this year I jump almost 4.80 – at least 4.70, – then it’s not so far to 5 meters.

Is this the best you done?

– Yes, I must say. I do not know what happened if the bar was at 4.75 instead of 4.80.

Angelica Bengtsson is full of confidence ahead of the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro next year, and she and her trönare already plan clear:

– I have been preparing for the Olympics and to do the same as I did indoors with these rods and now know that 4.80 is not far away, do I know what I have to work on.

– So it feels really good, says Angelica Bengtsson and give yourself a five on a scale of five.

peers Michaela Meijer ended World Cup -finalen in tears. She tore all three times in entrance height 4.35 and chose to leave the Bird’s Nest back door.

– I gave her a hug. I think it was nerves. It was her first big final and lots of people, says Angelica Bengtsson.

Self smiled her way through the competition.
