World Championship gold for Sjostrom 50 Butterfly – Swedish Radio

The world record holder Sarah Sjostrom had to fight to take his first World Championship gold in the 50 meters butterfly. Jeanette Ottesen gave the Swede a real match, but Sjostrom was stronger in the last armtagen and eventually won by 38 hundredths.

– It was a really exciting final, I felt I had the grip of ten meters left, I know that it is my strongest part of the race, said Sarah Sjöström.

Sarah Sjöström has now taken two World Championship gold medals (100 butterfly, 50 butterfly) and a World Championship silver (100 free) at the World Championships in Kazan .

On Sunday, she has the chance to take a fourth World Championship medal, for about an hour after the final on 50 butterfly took Sjostrom on from the semi-final of the 50 meters freestyle. The Swede finished second in his semifinal heat and is on to the finals with the third best time, 24.31.

-Sjöström saw some slowing on the final armtagen towards the goal, she can probably join in and fight for noble denominations tomorrow, says Radiosporten simexpert Anna-Karin Kammerling.

The Fastest of all was Cate Campbell with 24.22. And Sjostrom hope she can give australiensiskan a match in the finals tomorrow, Sunday.

– I have sickle problem but the finish area on the freestyle, I find it hard to see when the wall is there, so if I can fix the last bit in the morning, so maybe it can go faster, but I know it will be very tough to compete for the medals, says Sarah Sjostrom.
