The dream of the record bursting of Real Madrid – Express

Real Madrid’s dreams of world records were dashed on Sunday evening. Valencia turned around and won 2-1 at Mestalla after goals by Antonio Barragan and Nicolás Otamendi.

Last Real Madrid lost a competitive match was in the derby against Atlético de Madrid – 13 September. Since then “Los Blancos” won and lost in 22 straight games. Until tonight.

League Femman Valencia became too difficult at Mestalla, and the loss means that Real Madrid’s chance to set the world record for number of consecutive victories is gone. The world record is held by Brazilian Coritiba, who won 24 straight games.

But the game began as usual for Real Madrid. The home side’s Alvaro Negredo got the ball on the arm in the penalty area after one quarter, then the referee pointed to the

penalty spot. Cristiano Ronaldo made no mistakes and pleaded the ball safely behind Diego Alves.

The goal was Ronaldo’s 25th league goal this season. But in the second half turned the Valencia game on 13 minutes. Antonio Barra Gans shot changed direction at a Madrid defender and found the back behind Iker Casillas. Center-back Nicolás Otamendi headed the 2-1 after a corner shortly thereafter. Real Madrid then pressed on to tie the game, but could not outwit a big gambling Diego Alves in the home goal.
