Holm: Becker embarks on Federer again – Aftonbladet

On the center court: Roger Federer against Novak Djokovic.

In the stands, Stefan Edberg, Boris Becker.

One more loaded and the prestigious US Open -final we will never get to experience, so be sure to keep you awake tonight.

Roger Federer had ended, and it was a long time ago the world of tennis experts hit although it. History’s greatest tennis players was “only” to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon in 2010, won no Grand Slam title the following year and had a “total failure” of 2013, when he disappeared already in the second round of Wimbledon and just went to the round of the US Open.

The problem is that the Swiss have only a credible critics, and it is he himself. The day he feels that he can not maintain itself in the top of the world, he will announce it, and that day is not here yet.

A whole tennis world talking about SABR

Roger Federer in 2015 looks in the mirror he sees a 34 year old with no expiration date, a champion who has won most of all, but still not enough. 17 Grand Slam titles to be 18 and do not be surprised if he leaves the US Open champion.

Federer moves better and serve more stable than ever and play aggressive tennis as never before. During the US Open, he has, on average, met opponent’s service one and a half meters inside the baseline. He has gained a lot of tennis world talking about SABR (Sneak Attack by Roger), which means he rushes forward towards the service line and returned the ball on the rebound.

The tactic is disrespectful, believes Boris Becker.

“Did not have accepted it”

Novak Djokovics coach, who met Edberg in straight Wimbledon finals, have of course not to do with it. It is as if Edberg would criticize Djokovic because he slips on hard court, which can only be expected to do on clay. He does not, of course, but the German could not shut up.

– If he played so against McEnroe, Connors, Lendl and me, we had said to him: Roger, we really like you, but you continue like that we will serve straight at you. The guys of my generation had not accepted it. It’s almost disrespectful to the other player, said Boris Becker in an interview with Sky Sports.

He should not speak so, if disrespect and other people’s movements. It should be no one who has completed his Wimbledon career with his pants down on the stairs leading to the toilets at the restaurant Nobu. I do not know what the Russian model Angela Ermakova had to return game in 1999, but Boris took aim and hit, and nine months later was born a small female child named Anna.

It is not the first time that 47 -year-old embarks on Federer while lessening himself both as a person and athlete. His adept needs no help to start some psych war, and he is probably not interested in it.

Djokovic and Federer are not best friends, but they are so professional that they would never speak condescendingly about each other. They have their settlements on the tennis court, and what a match it can get at Arthur Ashe Stadium in the evening. Djokovic has won 20 of their previous meetings, Federer 21. They played fantasy tennis in their semi-finals against Marin Cilic and Stan Wawrinka, and no one forgets their last two meetings at the US Open. Djokovic won the semi-finals in 2011 and 2010, but both times he was forced to save two match points.

Becker, however, seem to take every opportunity to pick on Roger Federer. In the book “Wimbledon: My Life and Career at the All England Club,” which was released last summer, he describes Federer as a hypocrite. Yes, the Swiss are not as nice as he prepared without cultivating their image to make big money on advertising contracts and starting money.

I do not know why Becker keeps on as he does, but I think it rooted in some kind of inferiority complex. “Boom-Boom” won six Grand Slam titles, including three at Wimbledon. Federer has won 17 Grand Slam titles, including seven at Wimbledon.

Federer intend to continue

When the Swiss secured the final spot in the US Open, he was, not surprisingly, questions about Becker’s latest gambit.

– It is not disrespectful. It’s that simple. I will continue with it. No problem, he said.

To meet the serve extremely early is nothing new, and Becker is damn aware of it. Federer himself tells us that he met Max Mirnij and Tim Henman, who acted just the same in the return game.

The question is whether Boris Becker has also done it.
