The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that five cities are clear as potential host countries for the Olympics. The cities are Budapest, Hamburg, Los Angeles, Paris and Rome. Last night came the deadline for submitting their contributions.
We welcome five outstanding and highly qualified candidate cities, said Thomas Bach, IOC President to olympic.org.
Olympics Agenda 2020
Unlike other years, the IOC will contribute 1.7 billion dollars to the city selected in 2024, according to the Olympic Agenda 2020. We will recall all the World Athletics Championships in Russia: Swedish Emma Greens protest against the Russian antigaylagarna and Russian pole Hopper’s wife Jelena Isinbajevas critical gambit. Now it is a stop. With the Olympic agenda in 2020 commits the contribution towns to respect the Olympic Charter. The Olympic Charter, which now also takes into account the freedom of the media in reporting on the Olympic Games in the host country. The host country will also take part and follow the non-diskrimmineringsklausul with reference to sexual orientation. Finally, the city, the National Olympic Committee (NOK) and the Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games to take all necessary measures available to collateral development projects for the upcoming game.
Focus on legacy and sustainability
Athens Olympics was successful – for Sweden. Greece became the Olympic Games expensive. Very expensive. Many venues and facilities standing empty years after the Games, unused and in worse shape than ever.
It was a waste of money, all
Now, the IOC also be about to change. Candidate Cities have now been encouraged to focus on the heritage and sustainability through the use of existing facilities and to build venues where long-term needs are.
– Sustainability and heritage are the cornerstones of each candidate, says Bach.
