Oscar Pistorius was sentenced to five years in prison for the shooting death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
But after barely a year in prison, it is now clear that may leave prison to serve out the remainder of the sentence under house arrest, announces the South African media.
He released next Tuesday.
It was on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2013, as Oscar Pistorious shot dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.
On October 21 last year, he was sentenced after a long process to five years in prison for involuntary manslaughter. A judgment in August, after ten months was about to be converted to house arrest.
Something Reeva Steenkamps family strongly criticized.
Do not take weapons
– We do not want Mr Pistorius will suffer, it will not give us Reeva back. But a person who is found guilty of a crime must also take responsibility for their actions. 10 months of prison time is simply too little, wrote the family said in a statement.
The move to house arrest was also shot up following a decision of a parole board.
But now it is thus clear that the Paralympic star will be released this coming week on Tuesday.
The decision must Pistorius continue to undergo therapy during house arrest and he shall not have any weapons.
Reeva Steenkamps attorney Tania Koen says that the decision was expected:
– Nothing has changed. The family was expecting this decision. Reeva will not come back, whether he is released or not, she says according to journalist Mandy Wiener.
