IFK Norrköping finished second in the league in 1989 and got to meet the winners Malmo FF in SM final. The third and decisive SM-final was a thriller that went to the shootout.

In the sixth penalty inning decided the 27-year-old Janne Carlén SM-finals when he beat Malmö’s goalie and IFK Norrköping got lift the Championship trophy.
