A captured Guidetti tells SPORT-Expressen that he would honor the BP-captain against France.

– The hurts the entire stomach, it hurts everywhere. He does not deserve this, his family do not deserve this, says John Guidetti.

John Guidetti was on the field and trained as usual before Tuesday’s crucial U21 match against France in Halmstad.

Afterwards it was a deeply taken Guidetti who met SPORT-Expressen.

– It’s a tough day. It’s crazy, I can not believe it. It hurts the entire stomach, it hurts everywhere. He does not deserve this, his family do not deserve this, says John Guidetti.

He was sleeping when Alexander Milosevic woke him with the tragic news of his friend Pontus Segerstrom’s death from cancer.

– I thought I was dreaming at first, I took nothing.

“I suffer with his family”

– It was our captain, a good father, a family man. I am proud to have known him. I suffer with his family, my thoughts are with them and the entire BP family and hope that somehow we can remove this nasty disease.

Have you had the opportunity to visit Pontus during his illness?

– No, I have only had contact with him over the internet. My thoughts go out to him.

U21 national team, which includes BP player Nicklas Bärkroth are with, talked about Segerstrom death before Tuesday’s workout.

U21 line offer the players crisis

management and want the opportunity to sit down and talk.

– I talk to my loved ones, those who stood Pontus even closer than I did. Then it’s just to go out and try to fight. If I can honor him by scoring goals or something, I do it, says John Guidetti.

The thoughts of the family

The match against France will be a chance to pay tribute to Pontus?

– Yes, every time you go out on the pitch should honor those who stood close and passed away. My grandfather and Pontus, and so on. Just because they are away so they are not forgotten, they’re up there and looking down on us. I am a believer so I know he’s sitting there on a cloud as the angels do, and he is an angel.

How “easy” it is to focus on the match against France a day like this?

– It’s tough, but it helps not to get bogged down. I’ll try to continue this war, trying to make a really good match tomorrow. It’s a gloomy day, it feels right that it rains today it is no fun day.

John Guidetti concludes by sending a greeting to Pontus Segerstrom family via SPORT-Expressen.

– Be strong and my thoughts go out to you. Is there anything I can do as I want them to tell me. And Fuck cancer
