Ralf Edström makes his last game in our – Swedish Radio

After more than 30 years on Radiosporten ends Ralf Edström. Radiosporten boss Mark Boger explains decision not to renew with the people dear expert.

Why not extended the contract with Ralf Edström?
– Ralf has more than 30 years has been amazing. His 32 years is radio history. Meanwhile, we always need to renew and develop ourselves, and it is natural that such a phase starts just after the end of the World Cup. It takes time to become really good, so we need to work in the longer term – to work with and build up those who would bear the expert hand of not just two years at the European Championship, but hopefully also in 5, 8 and 10 years, says Radiosporten Manager Mark Boger.

How can you get rid of the one person so prized?
Ralf is unique with 32 fabulous years on the radio. Now it’s two years to the European Championships and four World Championships, and we are building a foundation for the next 5-10 years. In many ways, it is natural to begin a new phase of development after the World Cup. It is in the joint after a championship as there is time to build something new and reinforce ongoing development.

– Ralf has

had contracts with us year after year, and the current going out now. His last match will be Sweden’s World Cup qualifier against Moldova away March 27, 2015.

The audience listens to Sportextra is often a bit older and many appreciate Ralf Edström, how are you going about it?
– No single person can replace Ralf. However, we also know that even our current expert Richard Henriksson is widely appreciated by both young and old, men and women. The same applies to Johanna Frisk as we managed to get to us earlier this year. Now connect Håkan Mild to the group, which is very exciting. We believe and hope that we continue to have experts that engages both a broad and diverse audience, not only in football but also in general.
