A bold – and totally the right decision of Cold – Aftonbladet

Charlotte Kalla jumps unexpectedly ski team.

ski star flinch own plan for the coming season.

Sportbladets ski expert Petra Thorén answers three questions about the surprising decision.

What does Charlotte Kalla decision?

– We must be clear that Charlotte Kalla not jump the Swedish national team. She will compete for Sweden in the World Cup, the World Championships next year and the Olympics in 2018 (and all the championships until she stops). What she does is she steps off the training group and the ability to train in good conditions with sharp sparring, Stina Nilsson challenged her sharply last year, in a number of camps in the summer and autumn. She does it to test their own arrangements for a season that was disappointing. Charlotte Kalla has the money to make their own investment and is not dependent on the national team åkarbidrag. She is possibly a bit more alone.

Is it right for Charlotte?

– Yes, I think it’s quite right. An unexpected decision, but a bold one. Charlotte Kalla is that I know her a very dutiful girl reluctant to stand out. Now she makes a decision needed to reverse a negative trend. Not quite convenient for her to do it, I suspect, but brave. A winner goes its own way. Johan Olsson is surely a prime example of that. It cut himself with damtränaren Mattias Persson former years in the national team, I had guessed that Charlotte Kalla would continue when he chose to quit, but now she chooses to completely run with their own personal coach Magnus Ingesson.

What it means for the national team?

– Damgruppen will be without its fixed star that gives the other riders hefty challenge at all camps. Charlotte Kalla is of

course a role model for the other riders and an asset to have on their team. But now stars as Stina Nilsson and IDA INGEMARSDOTTER grow and take up more space. Possibly, the new arrangement to coach Rikard Grip has less insight into the great star’s life. And it means that the Swedish Ski Association major sponsors can not have Charlotte Kalla as the poster child for the season.
