Swedish Championship gold medal after mätkaoset – Aftonbladet

Prague. Michel Tornéus was dazed, generous and happy at the European Championship gold in Prague.

But when he sat and tried to digest all the impressions, he glanced up at the stands.

– Then I saw my girlfriend and daughter sitting up there in the stands. Then I started to cry. Then I was happy, says Michel.

Michel Tornéus got his championship gold here in Prague.

In the end.

– Well, shit. I’ve been waiting a long time. This is my fourteenth championship so to finally get to take a gold felt very good. It is great fun.

But the most fun was to share it with those closest to him.

The girlfriend Gabriella and her daughter Leah, 9 months.

No gold the world goes up against the two in Michel Tornéus life.

– No, my girlfriend who is always there and my daughter who is number one in my life. They are family and that of most other are the most important people in my life.

– Family means everything, says Tornéus with gold shoes slung over the shoulder.

“I had a dream “

It has not always been so.

When he grew up in the Stockholm suburb of Botkyrka, he had a pair of shoes. Both the training and private. The same well-worn pair.

– But I had a dream since I was little and today it went true. That’s why I always return to Botkyrka and feel so strongly about those who live and live there. I want to show that you can be a little brat with a single pair of shoes and who lives on the eleventh floor and still be just what you want. Just you believe in it and work for it. This was my dream, but I can only inspire two children out there so I’m satisfied.

Michel Tornéus have a strong passion for social justice.

He has not forgotten his roots. He has not forgotten where everything started.

Not even a monster jump of 8.30 can change that. It is he himself who spontaneously take up the subject that dreams can create wonders or at least a better world.

He knows, because he lives his dream right now.

peanuts compared to Hockey Star

A Swedish record and a European Championship gold would make most people end up in some sort of euphoria and dreams of eternal success, but Tornéus are careful to hold back those feelings.

– Yes, now we need to forget about this as soon as possible and aim for the World Cup in Beijing this summer. It feels like I passed the qualifying round (as he has done, it’s 8:10) and I can choose where and when I will compete this summer. This is a way towards the Olympic Games in Rio and I hope this will be able to attract some sponsors to keep up with the trip.

It says he is not to use the opportunity, but a world-class athlete does not miljoninkomster.

Michel Tornéus still play sports with small means and compared to an ice hockey or football player at the elite level, it’s still about pennies.

But the monster jump in Prague, 8:30, and a new Swedish record might change that.

There are at least not any better sporting ambassador than 28-year-old from Botkyrka.

The finale second Swedish Andreas Otterling rattled. With 8.06 tricks he bronze medal.

Even Czech Radek Juska slammed and won the silver at 8.10.
