Lagerback to slope: You should just say yes – Aftonbladet

When Hasse Backe, 63, was considering the offer to take over Finland push he was from an unexpected direction.

Future World Cup qualifier opponent Lasse Lagerbäck told him to take the job.

– You should only accept the thought Lasse says Backe Sportbladet.

After constantly turned down offers from both national team and clubs for several years after the last training mission (NY Red Bulls 2012) came as a bang today that Hasse Backe takes over the Finnish national football team.

– This should be fun. It is a real challenge, and during the past six months, I have felt the urge to jump on a new training mission come back.

What is it that made you get that craving?

– You know when you come to full houses and look important qualifying matches on the spot, looks qualifying raffles on your TV, then that nerve. Then tickle it says Backe.

How many requests have you received over the years without practicing job?

– I do not know. There have been many, at all possible levels. But nothing has seemed really attractive until now.

– I had training missions constant for 30 years, where the only thing longer break lasted five months that I had been fired at Panathinaikos. I needed this break. I was pretty exhausted.

Does the Swedish Football Association has been in contact with you sometime and offered a job over the years?

– No.

Disappointed that?

– No, not in the least, although people certainly think so.

When Backe well could decide if he would take the job as Finnish head coach, he juggled with his good friend and colleague Lars Lagerback – who is the coach of Iceland, and Finland meet in the World Cup qualifiers next year …

– It will be nice to meet at plan too! We talked about it, Lasse and I a week ago.

Did Lagerback to request you received from Finland?

– Yes. We had contact and twisted and turned a little on this. Lasse and I are good friends.

And what did he say?

– He pushed me and said “This is going to take!”

Hasse Backe takes over formally as the Finnish national coach from 2016 World Cup qualifiers, Finland has also assigned against Croatia, Iceland, Ukraine and Turkey.

– There is a group in which everyone can take points of all. I get a very fresh start totally unprejudiced where I get the opportunity to build a team that I want. It feels good for me to come in that way.

– We should be topped on match day. It is important to succeed in their planning, balance, intensity during exercise to the letter the day. Then Finland, like many other national teams, disrupting all nations.

Is it finished working in television when you take over the Finnish brand (as of year-end)?

– There will not be to the same extent as now. But if it does not clash with Finland so I can imagine taking occasional assignments even then. I would like to continue with television, it’s fun, if it’s possible, and I can, says Backe.
