New physical training should raise alpine skiers – Helsingborgs Dagblad

Large Slalomåkaren Olsson can look back on a season where it did not go as wished in the World Cup but where the World Cup gave a surprising fifth place.

– The gave me extremely much, it saved the season a little bit and it was easier in the summer to practice on.

In winter hope he get back to the feeling he had around the World Cup, then everything felt easy.

– I want to look up that feeling and keep it for most of the season. I hope to raise my minimum level then the chances are greater that I can get up on the podium, he said.

Olsson has been in summer received help dryland training of physio Robert Nilsson, who also works for the alpine ladies.

– He is passionate about it, is very engaged and it put me enormously valuable. He puts up good program and it’s been really fun, says Vermlander.

Mattias Hargin, seventh in the slalom cup and Sweden’s best slalom racers of last year, has operating his summer training in Stockholm with new fitness coach. He (and Markus Larsson and Jens Byggmark) have run with Andreas Öhgren which also helps some NHL players.

– It has been a fun and rewarding summer with good training. We work more with movements and try to more closely resemble the skiing instead of lifting heavy weights up and down. I have had some problems with my back before. It feels better now, I’m more flexible and stronger in several locations.

– The training has been gentler but despite this development.

Hargin took further a step up last season.

– I think I did more runs that kept top-notch, led a few runs and took the first victory in the World Cup, he said.

– I thought that victory would mean so much, but it felt invigorating for both body and soul and I do not doubt that much of myself.

Hargin was admittedly the best in the Swedish slalom gang last year, but another five riders were among the top 20 in slalom Cup.

– There was no other country. And although Matte (Hargin) is the best right now, he is not always the best at exercising. It is good for everyone to see that it is possible to beat him. We can not get better training, says Axel Bäck, who last season finished fifth once and sixth thrice before he injured his knee just before the World Cup.
