Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron became the first ice dancing pair who managed to defend his world title since 2007. At the World Championships in Boston got the French skaters record high 118.17 points for its free programs.
– We did not expect these high scores. But we managed to do our very best today, says Cizeron.
The French pair led after the short program and in line with expectations in the final race. In total they received 194.46 points, the second highest score given in ice dancing.
The American siblings Maia and Alex Shibu Tani took silver and countrymen Madison Chock and Evan Bates bronze.
Last time that a isdanspar took the World Championships for two consecutive years was when Bulgarians Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviskij won in 2006 and 2007.
