The Swede’s game from tee to green was impressive during the first day of the WGC Championship at Doral. But put no need to get better if he’ll have a chance to go up with JB Holmes sprinted to the four-stroke lead.
Henrik Stenson is shared sixth after 69 kinds, three under par, and thus the best Swedish in the competition.
– I am very pleased with today’s scores says Stenson to tour.
He showed that swing training paid off and hit 15 greens with its impressive iron game.
– It feels like I’m in a decent position gameplay now, even I have only played a few laps on the track recently. Have you done a lot of training, you are of course eager to get out and see how it works, said Henrik Stenson to the Swedish Golf for the race which is an important part in the build up to the Masters.
This week Stenson with him his swing coach Pete Cowen on the competition. And as I said, it works good swing. Stenson’s putt on the other hand looked a little rusty after a month off. He lowered admittedly a long putt for birdie on the sixth hole but he missed some other holes, including a short birdie putt on the twelve.
– Some things are easier the more you compete and I feel actually less rusty than I thought and it is very positive, says Stenson.
Alex Noren also played well and he was best four under par. He then came up against problems in the difficult to play the 18th hole where it became a disdainful triple bogey and Norén came to an end in one over par and shares 27th place.
Doral-path synthesis somewhat easier on Thursday compared last year when, among other things, a record was set with the most balls in the water during the 2014 season.
– It was played the very tough last year and it is normally not unfavorable to me. But then I can go running low on whether there will be dumsvårt and it felt like the balance between “risk and reward” was not quite right at the track last year, which elicited a bit defensive. It’s very tough out there but it is what it is, you just have to keep your game plan and try to avoid disasters in some of the holes, says Henrik Stenson.
One that seemed to thrive on the first day was American JB Holmes with his far-hitting game had set their sights on the flags. Holmes stood for a bogeyfri 62-round and leads for the rest four stroke ahead of countryman Ryan Moore.
