Lamine Diack, the former president of the International Association of Athletics Federations, told the French police that he asked – and received – EUR 1.5 million of the then President of the Russian athletics federation Valentin Balachnitjev.
According to Lamine Diack, the money would be used for political purposes in his home country of Senegal in 2011. According to the newspaper Le Monde will Diack received money from Russia to support Macky Sall in the ongoing presidential election.
Diack suspected of having received bribes in exchange for covering up the Russian doping and investigated by French police.
