Finland can no longer win group B in the Junior World Championships. This became clear after Russia defeated Slovakia 2-1 on Thursday.
For that Finland would still have a chance to win the group required that Slovakia would come over Wednesday’s loss and defeat Russia.
And so it was not.
Russia took the lead in the first period after goals Artur Lauta and in the middle of the second period rose Yegor Rykov at 2-0.
Christian Jaros reduced for Slovakia at the end of the second period, but closer than the team came not.
This means that Russian landing on eleven points and win the group. Slovakia finishes fourth and will meet Sweden in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
Finland and the Czech Republic make up later today for second place in the group. The winner of the match ends in second place, while the loser finished third.
