Pregnant athletes without security “- Vasterbotten Courier

Sports Telegram When women in the sport becomes pregnant is not the security that women in other professionals may take for granted. “The sports movement is light years behind working life, security conditions,” the 13 athletes in an open letter published in Dagens Nyheter.

Since athletes are rarely employees but are supplied by sponsorship and support, there is no social security system when entering a female athlete gets parent.

“If we want more women to pursue their sporting careers the same way that athletes men, we need to change our way of looking at women’s family formation,” writes among others hurdler Susanna Kallur in the letter.

Peter Reinebo, operations manager at SOK, comments on the letter in the same newspaper and describes that there are three kinds of specific support to SOK awards. Consultancy, costs for training or racing touring and living expenses on your way to the top.

Athletes who have already reached the peak is often driven company itself.

But the athletes feel that it is necessary to think about. With a system that lacks strategies for women who become pregnant, it follows that women and men do not have the same conditions for their participation in sports.
