Leksand The forward about the tragedy: “It was hell – he died of cancer” – Dalarna Tidningar

He is getting ready for his third JVM, Anton Karlsson. Gothenburg Son, who was already in Malmö in 2013. Then he was the youngest in the team with a grid on the helmet, which reinforced the image of who was the team’s youth. Today he is the Junior crown most experienced player with over 50 U20 internationals.

Gamers have been changed during the voyage, but Anton Karlsson is who he’s always been. For him, not much has changed.

– Nah, not really. When you walk into a national team with the skilled guys anything, you know your role. I know my role, as it has always been. I will spread positive energy and help with hard work. Then I got more ice time and trust over the years, which makes it a greater role. That’s what changed, says Anton who was captain of Sweden’s U16, U17 and U18.

It feels like you’re a guy who likes to take responsibility?

– Yes, absolutely. I want to be a leading player and display the teammates that I’m with and willing to do everything. At the same time you do not think about who will be the captains, we have how many wire types, and everyone can really take a C or A on the chest.

19 years old, Anton Karlsson had time for a lot of his hockeyliv. Besides two JVM and countless junior internationals, he has draftats of the NHL team the Arizona Coyotes and already represented five Swedish hockey clubs.

But the question is if Anton have been where he is today if it were not for one person. A person who is no longer with us.

– I was in fifth grade when it happened. My best friend’s father passed away from cancer. I was with them all the time when I was younger and it was extremely tough. I took maybe not then, but I had been so close to all the family, played on the same team Lerum son and that makes it very special. It was so tough.

Was it a bit of a second father to you?

– Yes, it was. He helped me a lot and always supported. I was just saying that he was like an extra dad, says Anton.

He silenced. And continues to share the story of the person who more or less shaped him as a hockey player.

– It was hell. The days went afterwards there … Could not make. It was damn heavy, but I had hockey luckily. It made me second thoughts. Then it was incredibly hard to come home to the family again after that, it was not like before … Something was missing after all. They sold the house then also because it was to difficult.

Where you are old enough to understand?

– I do not think so. If I had been older, 14-15, then I probably would have understood it better. When he was in the final stage, he still cycle to our family and hung as usual. He felt the piss, but he came anyway. He did not give up. He was a real fighter. He has been such a great inspiration to me, and he has given me that I should never give up. The night when he went away he did not want that the ambulance would take him to the hospital but he wanted to

get there myself. I have taken after his mentality to run full.

Has he, and what happened defined you as a person and a hockey player?

– Yes, as it has become. Then there are of course very many other reasons why I am who I am, but at that age I was beginning to be formed, and he influenced me enormously, says Anton who wishes his extraordinary father could see he was taken out.

– Occasionally in the day, I think of him and then I feel that I miss him. I would like that he was here with me. I got to meet him again.

If less than half a year becomes Anton Karlsson himself a father. In April, it is thought that he and his girlfriend Caroline to get an extension and go from two to three.

– It will be really great to be dad. It’s so close now and I’m really looking forward to it, says Anton directly want to highlight his girlfriend.

– She really means a lot to me. It is someone who does everything for me to get ahead, she pushes me and helps me with everything. I have her to thank for the enormous amount.

But before Anton Karlsson will welcome a new family member, he has a season with Leksand and a JVM left to pursue. FINAL and bronsbesvikelsen from the previous two years, must now be replaced with wild golden jubilee.

Is it intended in any case.

– It feels great and powerful. It is not all who get to experience playing three JVM. We are now aiming to take home where gold.
