Skoglund’s success: Won careers biggest fight – Aftonbladet

Here, Erik Skoglund, 23, a new giant leap toward a world championship fight.

The Swede defeated former world champion Glen Johnson and extend their unbeaten streak to 22 straight games.

– I was better than him, says Skoglund to TV10.

The 22 years old adversary – who is best known for having knocked superstar Ray Jones Jr. – has gone down slightly during in recent years but is still held as a world boxers.

Before the match was Skoglund still confident.

– I will not lose it here, he told Sport blade.



Even all the way

Skoglund got a good start and took command in the first round. Second and third, fourth and fifth were the smoother.

But in the sixth Skoglund got several good attacks.

– Erik probably have a slight lead now, said TV10′s expert Otto Wallin.

Even the seventh round was difficult to assess.

– But I think that Erik won this round too, said Wallin.

At the end of the match began 45-year-old Glen Johnson to see more and more exhausted out while Skoglund kept the energy up.

The brawl went all the way out, all ten rounds.

– Best game of the Swedish professional boxing for a long time, said Wallin.



Want to join a world championship fight

Finally came the news: Skoglund won the match in a unanimous verdict.

– It feels good to have it done. There were many scarce rounds, but we had the margins on our site. Glen is a skilled opponent, he boxes clever. It may sound a little cocky, but I was better than him, says Skoglund to TV10.

He hopes to get a world championship fight next year.

– It is not far behind. We’ll see how this match can take me up on the charts further but as we see it, we expect a world championship fight in 2015. When it is, we shall see, says Skoglund.
