Coe: Gothenburg had never shot at the World Cup – Expressen

Gothenburg. IAAF chairman Sebastian Coe admits.

It was not right when Eugene got the World Athletics Championships in front of Gothenburg.

The word creation has called up the former federation chief Bjorn Eriksson.

– But he claims he was not involved, says Eriksson said.

On Tuesday it emerged that secret email had been found around the process when Eugene was awarded the World Athletics Championships in 2021.

Mail where it appears that Sebastian Coe has connections to the city of Eugene by the sports company Nike that word making is an ambassador for.

The information received Coe to call Björn Eriksson and recognize how it was.

That it would not have been entitled at the decision-making process.

Coe did not participate in the decision

However, he does his own involvement – and says that it was by the IAAF chairman Lamine Diack who pushed through the decision without allowing other candidate.

– Coe told me that his understanding was that the process was unethical and non -transparant, and that he stood for an open process until the IAAF meeting in Beijing when it presented a fantastic offer from Eugene, says Björn Eriksson.

And continues:

– He said he committed all resources available in the IAAF to turn over all the stones and do not hesitate to forward information.

“You have to wash out of this, is not enough to sweep”

Eriksson believes that the leadership of the IAAF must undergo an independent audit.

– You have to wash out of this. It is not enough to sweep.

Lamine Diack

and several other IAAF linked people police investigated right now for suspicion of bribery in connection with the Russian doping scandal.

Björn Eriksson feels that it is silly of Coe to be paid by Nike while he is president of the IAAF. But he also believes that we should remunerate the President to avoid sources of income of a similar nature.
