The Swiss Stan Wawrinka was late Friday night, the fourth and the last player to fix the semifinal of the Tennis ATP finals in London.
World Four Wawrinka defeated late Friday night, world number two Andy Murray. The Scot Murray led the first tiebreak sets with 4-2, but lost the game completely and stood for a number of simple mistakes.
Next, Wawrinka had a fairly comfortable ride to victory by 2-0 in sets (7-6, 6-4).
Murray’s coaching staff, with among others Swede Jonas Bjorkman, did not sit down at the track in practice box. Instead, they had placed high up in the stadium, out of sight of the shots that usually have a bad habit of taking out his irritation against the right coaching box during games.
Murray had, however, sometimes difficult to restrain his hot temper and trick did not calm the shots.
Wawrinka, also with Swedish in practicing the box in the form of Magnus Norman, played at times dazzling tennis with his ground-covering changes in tempo from both the forehand and backhand side. But the Swiss lost grip at the line 5-2 in the second set and let Murray back into the game again. Wawrinka managed to gather himself and was able to make a lot nervdaller serve home match at line 5-4.
Murray eliminated and must recharge for next weekend’s Davis Cup final, where Britain is set against Belgium away from home.
Saturday semifinalpar in ATP finals is:
Rafael Nadal-Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer-Stan Wawrinka.
Otherwise, perhaps a little unexpected, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have most impressed so far in tennis’s ATP finals. The former world number ones won their group and
Rafael Nadal, who has had problems with both injuries and self confidence this season, defeated world number two Andy Murray in straight sets (6-4, 6-1).
Roger Federer defeated surprisingly simple world number one Novak Djokovic in the group stage (7-5, 6-2). A lot of talking to the two meet in Monday’s final.
