Sarah Sjostrom world champion – Aftonbladet

Doha. Until Friday, December 5, 2014 had Sarah Sjostrom no short runway-World Championship medals.

35 minutes she arranged two.

– It is really beautiful with gold and silver. My first medals at short runway Championships. I did not think a few years ago that I would take, says Sjöström.

The short runway World Cup is just inside the third day, but already have Sarah Sjostrom experienced a roller coaster of doubt and success.

Tuesday was awful, she was not in shape to swim 200 meters in either freestyle or butterfly and included five seconds from his personal best in the 200 meters butterfly.

Wednesday was better. The Swedish 21-year-old impressed in trials and semi-finals of the 100-meter and 50-meter butterfly. Although the races were at half-hour intervals, she had the field’s best and second-best times of the spacers, 51.46 in the 100 meters freestyle was a Swedish record.

Just as tight, it was between finals, which was held Thursday afternoon.

Two medals in 35 minutes

The clock showed 16:15 Sjostrom into the water in the 100 meters freestyle.

She fought a constant battle against Ranomi Kromowidjojo and Femke Heemskerk, where she struck one of the Dutch but not the other.

Sarah’s 51.39 was two hundredths after Heemskerks time and gave silver medals.

Afterward swam Swede off, drank a little, and did not even change swimsuit to the next finals.

– I swam by me in ten minutes. I was pretty tired, but it was good for me in front of fifty butterfly stroke, I need hefty heating, so I think that’s why it went so fast there instead, says Sjöström.

The clock 16:49 was settled 50 meters butterfly which became a duel between Sarah Sjostrom and Danish Jeanette Ottesen. Sjostrom low after the turnaround but still won the race again mästerskapsrekord. 24.58.

How did you react when you saw the time?

– I was almost a little shocked. I felt completely exhausted after a hundred freestyle, I did try to grovel me away to avbadningsbassängen. Carl went looking for me here in the hall, I was completely exhausted.

The gold meant Sjostrom’s second medal in 35 minutes.

How will you remember these 35 minutes?

– That I surprised myself, as usual. I proved that I can manage to reload.

Sarah Sjostrom has two individual medal chances left during the World Cup. On Sunday, the swimmer covers the finals in the 100 meters butterfly and 200-meter free.
