TV: Both Canada and the Netherlands on after late equalizer – Football Channel

Holland equalized with just minutes left against Canada. This means that the host country will play quarter final – and probably the Netherlands as the top third.

All teams Group A had the chance to go ahead before the last round. The host country Canada secured the group victory thanks to 1-1 against the Netherlands, which most likely get to play on as one of the World Cup tournament’s best team threes.

Canada’s Ashley Lawrence could hardly have put their careers first country fights at a much better time. Four days after his 20th birthday, in his 21st international, she snatched up a loose ball in the Dutch penalty area after a failed clearance. and placed securely ball past Loes Geurts in the Netherlands goal.

The match had only been going and nine minutes. The home team had had a dream start to the Olympic Stadium in Montreal.

Bad for Sweden

FC’s Manon Melis got a great opportunity to score the equalizer for the Netherlands after 84 minutes, but did not get the ball past Canadian goalkeeper Erin McCleod. Instead, it became Rosengårds Kirsten van de Ven, who cracked McCleods zero in this year’s world championships, when she surely shot 1-1 two minutes later.

The Netherlands thus ended in third place, four points and 2-2 in goal difference, which is Sweden’s advantage. The top four threes in the six groups go to the quarter final, but whatever the result against Australia, Sweden can not be a better team than the Netherlands finished third.
