VIGO. Celta Vigo has signed a five year contract with John Guidetti.
The agreement is also a sky-high buyout clause – to protect his new striker.
If any club wants to steal Guidetti they must pay 235 million crowns.
– We hope to make money on the sale, says Celtas sporting director Miguel Torrecilla.
Ahead of around 500 euphoric fans presented John Guidetti today as Celta Vigo’s new offensive weapon.
The 23-year-old held a short press conference inside the new home stadium Balaidos before he went into the crowd ocean to sign autographs and stand on selfies.
He feels that he has come to the right.
– This fits like a glove for me, says Guidetti when Sportexpressen meet him in Vigo after the presentation.
– It was a perfect choice and I do not think I will regret it someday. It will be fun to play in the best league, it will be really cool.
“John will develop”
Celta Vigo think hard on Guidetti and during the negotiations done everything to protect their investment.
The contract is written in five years and the buyout clause, which is obligatory in the Spanish league, is set high. According to information Sportexpressen stands at EUR 25 million, corresponding to SEK 235 million. Celta Vigo could therefore reject all of the bids that are lower than SEK 235 million.
Only one player the club has a buyout clause that is higher than that – great star Iago Aspas.
The information has not commented officially, but sports director Miguel Torrecilla tells Sportexpressen the club’s strategy of developing young talent and then re-sell them – expensive.
– The goal is that John will be developed here and get to the next level . Then we hope to make money on the sale, says Torrecilla.
Nervous during U21-EM
Miguel Torrecilla also explains that it was something of a nervous ordeal to enlist John Guidetti.
– Attack The market is always very difficult. And it becomes even more difficult when it comes to strikers at this high level. I mean, John had many opportunities … And it did not get any simpler that John wanted to wait with their decision until after the U21 European Championships, says Torrecilla and continues:
– If I was nervous? Yes, I was nervous. Sweden only won, won and won. It was not that I was hoping that John would not score, but I realized that the championship could change the situation for us. Ouff! It was tough! But eventually went transaction locks.
