He leaves the freezer in Copenhagen for the hot air in Malmo FF.
The 34-year-old Johan Wiland is determined to show that he is still a top goalkeeper – and want to win more titles.
– I will do everything to succeed here and help the team, says Johan Wiland to the Evening Post.
Malmo FF’s hunt for a replacement for Robin Olsen is over.
On Wednesday presented the club Johan Wiland, just as the Evening Post revealed earlier. Wiland purchased loose from FC Copenhagen and has signed a contract to 2017.
– We have weighed the pros and cons. We have looked at the young goalkeepers, older goalkeepers, foreign goalkeepers, and then we stuck to Johan which feels great. He has a vast experience and is basically a very good goalkeeper, says MFF sports director Daniel Andersson who will now be looking for a replacement to knee injuries Zlatan Azinovic.
Johan Wiland broke through the Elfsborg, which he won national championships in 2006, before he took the plunge into Danish FC Copenhagen in 2009. During Wednesday did 34-year-old his first training MFF player and explains why he wanted to Malmo FF.
– There is a big betting club that wants to play in Europe every year, looking to win the league every year. I want to come to a club that invests and I’ve really done, says Johan Wiland.
During 6.5 years FCK’s Johan Wiland both had great success and heavier periods. Twice he has been named the league’s best goalkeeper. And in the Champions League, he was almost a living wall in 1-1 meeting with Juventus in 2013.
– The Champions League is the memories that will accompany a lifetime. We moved on from group one year. It was awesome, says Wiland.
“Such is football”
But the past year, he has had to put up a place on the bench when Ståle Solbakken opted Stephan Andersen to score.
– So is football. It goes a bit up and down. I have had a fantastic time in Copenhagen, and it is clear that they did not want it to end like it did. But I know what’s up when you take a new goalkeeper, he has primacy. So it is, and now I have come to a club where I’m betting on.
What it means you sat on the bench the last year?
– It means that I am very very hungry, first and foremost. Then I hope that I have so much experience that I can sit back and get right into it. It would be incredibly nice of course.
At Swedbank Stadium Johan Wiland only been with the national
Are you a better keeper after time in Denmark?
– It is hard to say. I’ve always tried to play my game, the difference is that I have more experience with me and played the big games. I hope that I am a complete ‘keeper to make it I will.
The expectations are high.
– Of course we’ll win football matches, eventually winning the league, I hope. Chances are, still, we have all remained ahead of us to meet. You have to take one game at a time and win it, says Johan Wiland.
Debut against Sundsvall
With Zlatan Azinovic operated and away the rest of the season gets Johan Wiland chance to debut against Gif Sundsvall on Saturday already.
– It will be sick fun. It will be fun to get on the pitch again.
– I know that Malmö has very good fans, I hope they can accept me with positive arms. I will do everything to succeed here and help the team.
After the summer break, Johan Wiland just a 30-minute appearances for FC Copenhagen in the legs.
How is the shape?
