Sweden has a new world champion.
Late in the night won Elienor Werner, 17, gold in the World Youth Championships in the pole vault – in front of the icon Sergei Bubka.
– Now I dream of Olympic gold, says Werner to the IAAF website.
Elienor Werner, who normally competes for Hässelby SK, was superior in the finals in Cali, Colombia.
17 -year-old secured the World Championship gold already when she managed 4:15 in the first attempt, then all competitors stayed at 4:05.
Werner then went on to manage both 4.22 and 4.26, before she stopped and counted the World Championship gold .
4:26 is also a new world best in the junior side.
– It felt good here on inside the arena, I just wanted to keep trying, says Werner to the International Athletics Federation’s website.
Werner has now taken the same title as the current world record holder Yelena Isenbajeva did in 1999. And Elienor Werner dream already about new titles.
– I dream of gold, and now I have been able to realize it . Now I will dream of Olympic gold, and who knows?
Australia’s Phillippa Hajdasz stopped took the silver and the bronze went to Chinese language Quailing Jeng. They jumped 4:05.
