Caroline Seger may not be there when PSG meets Frankfurt in the Champions League final. All because of a mossy rule.

A year ago, very depressed Caroline Seger since she and Armadale lost the Champions League final against Wolfsburg. Now she has reached the finals again, with PSG, but feeling depressed again. She may not be with the Frankfurt Thursday evening. All because of a mossy rule, which only exists in women’s football, and that does not disappear until the next season.

Yellow cards can even next season turn players from participating in the final. So it is not on the men’s side.

Susanne Erlandsson, vice-chairman of UEFA’s Female Committee. And she wants to point out that there are no ulterior motives, that there are no gender differences.

– The question has not passed unnoticed, and the amendment is adopted, says Erlandsson.

– But what about this year’s tournament is not the issue relevant to discuss. There is a regulatory framework that applies.

PSG vain trying to get Segers shutdown repealed. But UEFA has left the appeal without action.

It was therefore a partially sprained PSG arrived in Berlin on Tuesday afternoon. 48 hours before kick-off against FFC Frankfurt.

In addition Victory is also the World Cup aside Kheira Hamraoui (France) is off and miss the final.

The situation incurred bottoms of fatigue in the ruling of the European Football Association, UEFA, and hibernated rule which amply demonstrates that UEFA did not take women’s football seriously. That equality is not on the agenda every day of the week.

In the women’s Champions League accumulate yellow cards during the tournament. And it takes only two to be turned off. On the men’s side, the limit is set at three yellow cards.

A yellow card against Lyon in the eighth plus a new yellow against Wolfsburg in the semi-final return brought Caroline Seger.

In the men Champions League, it is impossible to miss the final, unless one is sent off in the semi-final return. All yellow cards are deleted ie after the quarterfinal game.

The reason for this injustice is primarily about economics. UEFA wants to milk the most out of the men’s tournament. And sponsors require stars, in each round.

To prevent Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez from playing a final, just because they pulled on yellow cards at an earlier stage of the tournament, is not agenda.

But when it be set forth is the ladies are not the same commercial considerations. Women’s Champions League is not the cash cow.

The reason that the rules written on the men’s side was great manfallet in the final 2012 between Bayern Munich and Chelsea. No less than seven starting players from the semifinals were turned off in the final.

David Alaba, Luiz Gustavo and Holger Badstuber of Bayern, and Branislav Ivanovic, Ramires, Raul Meireles and John Terry of Chelsea.

Terry was beyond all salvation, even with the current system, because he got a red card in the semi-final return against Barcelona. But the other six had been playing with the regulations currently in force.

In this year’s final, Barcelona is a party. Right-back Dani Alves learns start for the Catalans. He racked up six yellow cards in this season’s Champions League games.

Change mills in the UEFA Mills then slowly. Each tournament, whether it is a European Championship finals or the Champions League, have a statute. A regulation that pushed through in good time before the tournament starts.

The rules applies for the Women’s Champions League 2014-15 was decided already in 2013. And the new rules, which was passed in 2014 , enter into force until the autumn. Rules that would have meant that Victory been able to play the final, of the women’s regulations had been in phase with the men.

But UEFA has not sought full equality between the sexes in the new framework.

All yellow cards will admittedly be deleted after the quarter-finals, just like on the men’s side. But still enters shutdown effect after two yellow cards, not three as on the men’s side.

This means that the player who pulls on yellow cards in both the first and second semi-final with automatic shut off from finals .

A fate that may still befall Caroline Seger, but Lionel Messi.

A year ago, Verónica Boquete close to his dream, a triumph in the Champions League. But Armadale lost a highly dramatic finale, in Lisbon, the German Wolfsburg (3-4). Thursday evening, she is in the final again, but now with FFC Frankfurt. For resistance stands new French upstart PSG, with Kosovare Asllani in the starting line.

– If I’m nervous? No, just excited, saying “Vero” when DN reach her on the phone, on the way to the final stadium in Berlin.

Are you surprised that you’ve reached the final again?

– Yes and no. A few years ago was a final of the Champions League something I only dreamed of experience as a player. I reached there with Tyreso. If someone asked me then, right after the loss, if I believed in a new finals already this year, I had said no.

– But football clearly had a surprise ready for me.

Frankfurt took place in the Champions League as the league runner-up in Germany last season. The road to the finals was straightforward. Verónica Boquete has started every game except one, in a free role as “ten,” and made six goals on the road to the final. Three of them came in the second semi-final meeting with Danish Brondby.

Now, Frankfurt had to beat the PSG in the finals to play in Europe this season too. Frankfurt ended namely only third in the Bundesliga behind Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg, after playing 1-1 at home against precisely Wolfsburg in the final round this weekend.

– but it shows just how good the German league is in my eyes the best in the world, says Verónica Boquete.

– Four teams of high international class – Bayern Munich, Wolfsburg, Frankfurt and Potsdam. And those who are behind is also at a high and satisfactory level. There are no easy matches.

What is the difference between 2014 Armadale and 2015 with Frankfurt?

– Last year’s final gnaws still in the back of the head. Each team is special, every final special.

– In the last year we knew that the team would split up as soon as the final was played. This year we can focus entirely on the final. There are no other thoughts that disturb you, you are not in situation that you’ll say goodbye to your teammates.

– It gives me better self-esteem, makes me more focused. I hope I can help to Frankfurt will be the best in Europe, says Verónica Boquete.
