Two Swedes are ready for the French Open. For the first time since 2008, there are two Swedes in the main tournament – Christian Lindell and Elias Ymer.
– This is my dream, says Lindell said.
Christian Lindell and Elias Ymer are both ready for the French Open. First: the 200-ranked Lindell to Jan Hernych (202) in the qualifying final with a 2-1 (3-6, 6-4, 6-4) and entered the main tournament. Soon thereafter: 175-ranked Ymer struck Roberto Carballes Baena (179) 2-0 (6-3, 7-5) in the qualifying finals just after Lindell, on the same path.
– I can not find words . I’m so happy. This is my dream, says Lindell said.
– Nice to be in the main event. That was my goal. I played well and had good energy, says Ymer said.
From the lead in the Swedish tennis federation is extremely good news.
– It is a great success for Swedish tennis, but we must be terrible humble with this success, it will give birth to more success, says coach Fredrik “Fidde” Rosengren Sportbladet.
There will Lindell’s first Grand Slam tournament, and there was somewhere that he would succeed, it was on the gravel in Roland Garros. 23-year-old grew up and lives in Brazil, where the gravel base is the starting point.
– He put down five months before this qualifying session. I persuaded him not to go to Australia, it was important for him to just drive the gravel, says
“never earned so much”
Now we need to recharge after the success .
– It is so big for him. He has never played a qualifier before, he has never earned so much money before. There is so much he has to put aside, to now be able to focus on winning tennis matches, says Rosengren.
Ymir has been in a Grand Slam tournament earlier, the Australian Open earlier this year.
And visible it an improvement for Swedish tennis after dark?
This is the first Swedish men’s player who stepped into the tournament in four years, past Robin Soderling 2011 when he reached the quarter-finals.
It is since 2008 as it was two Swedes in French. Then Södergren and Thomas Johansson.
Now the new stars, Lindell and Ymir.
– Christian and Elias are incredibly important for Swedish tennis, says Rosengren.
– It is important that we start a positive avalanche.
