Kenyan Richard Mengich was second last year. This time he received the laurel wreath. And the ladies got a new track record.
Four, second and now one. There you have Kenyan Richard Mengichs suite in recent years.
– Yes, I am very happy now because I tried for the third time and now I won. It was a nice one. I tried to press on because I knew that many of the others was very strong. I felt fine the whole race, he said.
After the first mile passed the leading Kenyan Henry Kiplagat at 28.59. There were six runners gathered in a second.
A while later, along the North Bank, when the runners have been out for 35 minutes so did the Kenyan Richard Mengich and Hizkail Tewelde, Eritrea, a small jolt.
When it was time to get up for Götaälvbron the two had a gap of 20 meters. And Mengich saw clearly the strongest out. When he passed 15 kilometers (43.10) was the distance 11 seconds to Tewelde, who in turn chased by a pack runners.
At the 20 km distance was 28 seconds.
Richard Mengich paraded supreme in to Slottsskogsvallen. Winning time: 1.00,44.
It was okay weather to run in, a little windy, but okay. I was not so tired when I came in towards the goal but it was awesome when everyone cheered for me and cheered for me, says Rickard Mengich who had hoped for a time during the hour.
He was second last year, four in 2013 and earlier this year, in Berlin, ran for one hour on the half-marathon (59.59).
The victory is rewarded with 6000 euros (about 55,000 dollars).
A course record
On the women’s side dominated the last years winner Worknesh Degefa, Ethiopia. She linked the grip early, was 19 seconds ahead of Beatrice Mutai after a mil and also set a new track record for the ladies – 1:08:13.
Which then gave 6000 Euros for the win plus 4000 euros (about 37,000 dollars) for the record.
14 seconds faster, for 68 minutes, had given her 10,000 euros in bonuses.
– I was tired, a tough race. But I come here again next year. Absolutely. Then I run on 66 minutes, she said.
