She was treated with ice, painkillers and sound waves.
Then jumped Michaela Meijer, 21, home a silver medal at the Junior European Championships in Tallinn.
– I’m relieved! All the way up to the warm ups, it was uncertain if I could jump properly, says Meijer Sport Express.
Michaela Meijer smiles big when she gets a silver medal around her neck into the sunshine inside the Kadriorg.
Recently, she stood on the podium in an international championship? It was six years ago. Meijer ended two youth World Cup in Italian Bressanone in 2009.
– I’m very happy, says Meijer, who was flawless all the way up to 4.50 before she tore out of 4.60.
Injured two years
– I took the medal in the first championship and now I take a medal at the last championship as a junior and it’s really fun. And it is great that it was Angelica Bengtsson who won here too, just as it was in 2009. It’s really lovely!
The road here has been tough for Meijer. For two years she struggled with a persistent knee injury, which gave the first in winter.
And it disturbed her even in Tallinn.
– From the beginning I did not know if I would able to skip two days in a row. I have not done that since my injury. We’ve had a lot of preparation for the finals, says Meijer and tells of ice, painkillers and sound waves.
Aiming for the record
She and her team brought a special machine to process knee with vibrations.
– It is a small machine and so they press a few buttons. They take jelly on knee and holding a plate against, so goes the sound waves toward the knee. It helps recovery in any way.
– And yes, all that seems to have worked.
Michaela Meijer has a personal record of 4.52 but hope to jump higher than that in summer.
Aiming 4.60 – Angelica Bengtsson’s Swedish record.
– Yes, I think that the Swedish record is not so far away. That’s what I’m aiming for. And so I want to make a really good results on the World Cup.
